100% Humidity Made it Interesting – RunLog July 3, 2020

I knew that this run was going to be tough, the humidity takes it toll on me, more than it used to, but the temps were decent, it was overcast or a light mist at times, so I figured 5.0 miles would be about as far as I would want to go today.

The Run

Planned run and focus: Middle Road Loop and strides after. Wear the ASICS GlideRides to see if I could get a good feeling run out of them.

  • Course: Middle Road Loop
  • Weather: Overcast, 66°F, Feels like 67°F, Humidity 100%, Wind 6mph from ENE
  • Distance: 5.03
  • Time: 45:40
  • Pace: 9:05

Splits:

  • 1.0 – 8:56
  • 2.0 – 8:38
  • 3.0 – 9:01
  • 4.0 – 9:06
  • 5.0 – 9:43 – this mile sucked.

What did I do well?

Despite sweating so much, I didn’t wear a hat, so there was no raining effect and the auto slow down that happens when it starts raining sweat off my hat. So that psycho run killer didn’t completely kill the run this morning.

100% humidity was tough for me to handle, however, I kept plugging along and actually had a decent run going until the last mile and then Blake and Stevens Hills did their magic and made me humble again.

What do I need to work on?

Keeping a consistent effort level going up the hills and maintaining better form i.e. keeping my head up and not having my eyes on my feet.

Shoes:

ASICS GlideRide – Finally the run that I have been looking for in these shoes. While I could feel the snugness on my right foot just a little, putting vaseline on before starting kept the discomfort level to simply yeah it is there versus, something that becomes really noticeable. They did what I wanted and I do notice that my glutes do work more in these shoes than others. I also was surprised at the pace on miles 2-4, it was a little quicker than I expected for the conditions.

What was I thinking?

That running in 100% humidity sucks.

When is it going to rain, that would have felt so nice, it never really did.

I am feeling pretty good…well at least until I got to the bottom of Blake, then it all fell apart. Although I did manage to finish today for a change.
